Knee problems (pain)?!

Question: I am 14 and I have had very painfull knees for about a year now, the pain is on and off. I went jogging yesterday (just 10 minutes) and due to that I now have a really painful left knee. The pain comes as I bend it and put weight on (such as walking downstairs). There is no swelling, but sometimes they crack as I move (I think this is normal) I have read that it could be growing pains as I am still young.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

My son (14yrs) plays a lot of sport - runs for county and trains with a professional football youth academy - earlier in the year was complaining of similar knee problems, We visited the doctor and she said it was definite growing pains and asked him to refrain from any sport for 7 days. It worked the pain disappeared. It comes back from time to time, the doc said it could continue through puberty! Don't worry have a chat to the doctor

go to your g.p. for a check up

If you had a previous injury which affected your knee it should be a normal side-effect. If you never ever had any injuries which affected your knee, you should ask your doctor to check your knee. It could be that your muscles have been stretched too much and therefore caused pain. This could last for a couple of hours to a couple of days.

Ease off the jogging until you are feeling better.

In the meantime, you could try taking a suppliment called "Rose Hip capsules". I suffer with really painful hip, shoulder and elbow joints due to the medication I have to take. After taking the initial start-up dose of tablets for 3 weeks I am totally pain free for the first time in a year.

These tablets can be pricey so look out for them in the health food shop sales or mail order them.

At 14 you'r very young to be having knee pain. Are you an athelite? I know you said you run. Well as long as they don't go crunch like there grinding something inside It probably isn't to serious. All I can speak of is from personal experience. If you go up a flight of stairs and you hear this strange noise with each step and think there must be someone behind you then you have problems. Myself I have one arificial knee. It's really just like the real knee, it still hurts.
Belive me when I say take care of yourself including your knees they have to last a life time or you'll be watching those late night commercials for scooters and powered wheel chairs with real intrest.

It sounds like arthritis but you are a bit young for that. See your doctor for advice.
