Lortab & ibuprofen, please help! In alot of pain!?!

Question: Today my doctor prescribed me Lortab (hydrocodone) 5-500 and
Ibuprofen 600mg for very bad pain because of a hernia i have. Its being repaired in 4 days.

Anyway. I took 600mg's of Ibuprofen about 2 hours ago but its worn off already, is it ok to take a Lortab now?

He precribed me both at the exact same time but didnet tell me if i should take them together or not.
An the pharmacy is closed and so is the doctors office. Can i take a lortab now without overdosing?

I dont have a high tollarance to narcotics at all but i have a very high tollarance to alcohol.
I weigh 160 pounds, 6'2" an I'm 22 years old

You can take both at the same time without any problems. I've done it plenty of times.

But watch out for the booze with the hydrocodone. I've been in a pain mangement program for several years and have seen plenty of folks not mean to start abusing them with a beer or so, but then they in up in trouble.
I just mentioned it because you stated you have a high tolerance to alcohol.

Your bottle says 'loratab' and it is 5/500? It is normally called vicodin at that strength. It's all the same anyway except at a different narcotic strength. Hydrocodone and tylenol

The link below is the best place to find out drug info. There is a drug interaction tool on it also. Pdrhealth is a good link to have around for Rx questions. It's the same site your doctor would go to for Rx information.

Yes you can take them both. One of them has acetaminophen in it and the other is motrin.

yes you should be fine as they are 2 drugs that act differently and given that your dr prescribed them together it would lead me to believe that my memory serves me correctly

often in cases of acute moderate to servere pain 2 drugs are used to enhanse each other and are often alternated 2 hourly which means that whilst most drugs are designed to b motabalised over 4 hours you get some form of peak every 2 hours.

i strongly suggest that you speak to your out of hours doctor as they will be able to tell you if you can take any over the counter painkillers and or if there is a need for your op to b brought forward if they feel that the pain you are experiencing is improportionate to that they would expect

good luck and try a get hold of someone it helps even to know they know

I do take an anti-inflamatory at the same time I take pain meds but it is a different anti-inflamatory. As the crafty lady said, your doctor prescribed them both at the same time and didn't tell you not to take both at once so that also leads me to believe it's all right to take them both in the the same period of time.Just to be sure, you don't have to phone your specific pharmacy. Try the yellow pages, there is usually a 24 hr pharmacy close to a hospital or try phoning the hospital pharmacy.

Yes, you can take both at once. NSAIDs (like Ibuprophen) and hydrocodone are fine to take together. I was prescribed this exact combo after my two c-sections. Feel better!
