Answers: I hurt my ankle pretty bad and its swollen and bruised what do I do?

squeez your ankle gently

does it hurt when you touch above the malleolus [the sphereical shaped bone] or below it?

if its below its probably a ligament problem (a common 'sparined ankle')

if its above -- you are very likely a proud owner of a fracture which will need a cast and a pair of crutches.

for now i suggest getting a compression sock from a pharmacy to reduce the swelling, keep icing the area on and off, and get someone to take you to the Emergency Room, it may seem stupid but it is apperently common to break a bone just by rolling your ankle and the ER is the only way to go.

Go to the emergency room.

Ice it for the first 24 hours, heat after that. Go to the ER if it feels it could be broken. Stay off of it and keep it elevated.

ice :]
denn relax it..
if its a big deal..
go to emergency..
but i dotn think soo
.......
just dnt put weight on it !

At the very least you have pulled some ligaments and broke some blood vessels and that's why you have bruises.

You may have broken a bone in your ankle, so it is advisable to have it x-rayed. If not tonight in an ER, perhaps tomorrow at a doctor's office.

Put ice on it to control the swelling.

A doctor would be the best option as there may be some underlying problem that can't be treated at home. If you're stubborn like myself, I would suggest soaking it in a bath of Epsom Salts and then alternating ice and heat on it for 24-48 hours. If no improvement is made a doctor really must be seen. Ibuprophen is great for swelling and pain. Just take the minimal dose recommended.

stay off it and go get xrays to be sure that its not broken...

But Ice on it too reduce the pain and then uses heat too get the swollen down, next see a Dr. has you may have a brake

dont do what i did and not go to the doc. get it x rayed for broken bones. most likely you sprained it
