Best method to quit smoking?!

Question: Been smoking for 4 years and I'm ready to quit, hate the smell, feeling, ect. My gf stopped and a lot of my friends have as well so it's just more inconvinent to smoke now than ever.

I am tempted to try the patch, but i wanted to know what everyone else did? I tried cold turkey before and it didn't work, I was smoking again within 4 days!

Any help is much appreciated,

Thanks - Dom.

That's good that you have decided to stop smoking, don't try to quit by going cold turkey, it will only back fire.
Slowly try to smoke as less as possible by decreasing your daily cigaret intake.
Make realistic goals for yourself, for example still smoke what ever your amount of cigaretes smoke a day subtract one a day and keep tract of you many you have per day, like an allowence to your self and don't exceed your limit, don't try to cheat because you'll be cheating your self in the long run.
Also you might want to keep a journal to write down how your feeling( writing about what is bothering you, when you want to quit drinking, depression, insomnia or to help with stress is a healthy way to relieve some of that anxiety).
Also, if you want to keep a jornal, write down whenever your craving cigaretes. If you keep track of what is the cause of your cravings you might find a pattern.
Write something encouraging for your self every day and maybe you can have a couple of pages for your love ones to write down words of encouragement to motivate you.
Write down the reasons why you should quit and what will happen if you don't try to quit(it is obvious, but you're trying motivate your self).
Surround yourself with supportive people like friends, family and co-workers they will give you couragement and you're more motivated to try quit. There are also support groups.
You can try to work out, go to the gym with a buddy or go for a jog, working out can help minimize your cravings.
You can do other activities to keep you busy such as a hobby.

never smoked, maybe try some nico gum? GL, friend

ease up... smoke slowly decreasingly, like 3 cigarettes in a day, then one week later 2, the in another week one a day, so on so forth

I don't smoke, but you could just try to dwindle your smoking down until you get it to stop. You aren't going to quit in a night! Figure out your average number of smokes per day, then cut it down slowly. Quitting is all about how much you actually want to stop.

* Determine the day you will stop. That can be tomorrow, but you can also wait for a more favourable moment.
* Tell the people around you that you are going to quit. Possibly with somebody else.
* Take away everything that reminds you of smoking.
* Stop radically; it gives you the best chance of success.
* Change your eating and drinking habits. Drink a lot of water, eat a lot of fresh fruit and be aware of 'pleasure drinks' like coffee, tea and alcohol.
* Take care of enough physical relaxation. Go for a walk or a ride or go swimming.
* Reward yourself. Do nice things or give yourself something, like a cd or clothes.
* If you fall back, don't give up. Find out in what situation it happened and try to find out with what (alternative) behaviour you can react in the future. If you manage to come through the same situation next time, you have become stronger.

The desire to smoke is one of the first things you notice when you stop smoking. Such a moment lasts a few minutes. It comes, stays for a while and then goes. If you have stopped smoking recently, you will have that desire more often than after a few weeks. After a while, the periods between 'wanting to smoke' get longer and longer. Ultimately, the desire to smoke diminishes. Nicotine patches, self-help books and your doctor can help you to stop smoking. Also, health care centres usually have special "quit smoking" programs.

***medication is not theway to solve everything you have to do it on your own

Hey Dom.

Try "Smoke Away"

I used it and it works. Don't bother with nicotine replacement like gum and patch....you are just losing one habit and picking up another (like chewing expensive gum or wearing a sticky patch)

The first step is to COMMIT to QUITTING....and you'll be able to do it

Well the best way to quit is to go cold turkey. A person that goes cold turkey is more likely to succeed at quiting for good than someone who uses patches or gum. The gum and patches are still giving you niccotine which is what is keeping you from quiting so it is quite possible that you may become addicted to the gum or patch. However going cold turkey is the hardest method it is the most successful. Since you've done it before try a different approach. When you get the urge think of why you want to quit and the consequences of smoking. if it doesn't work try drink water. it will help a lot with your nerves and will keep you preoccupied.

good luck man

Use the proven 12- step - recovery program. It's steps uses 12 steps to get rid of bad habits... Alcohol, inappropriate Sexual incidents, smoking all of that

Well, I know that their is special types of gum that can assist you in quitting smoking. Also, slowly decrease the number of cigarettes you have everyday. Best Of Luck!

try patches use with an inhalator for at least 3 months...worked for me!!

im a smoker too and it is very hard to quit i have tried for many years i have been smoking since i was 14 yrs old if u chew gum instead of smoking my bf did that and its been 1 month since he has touched a smoke
