i feel your pain...
i got mine out when i 16 as well...last november.
and yes eating will hurt for a looong time..it made me cry too. i was just as miserable...just keep taking those painkillers, it will be a whole lot worse without them. (I tried to get off of them waay too soon...i regret that BIG time)
its also worse because of your age. young kids, like 5 and under, have it so much easier...they bounce back faster and the tonsils are smaller and have less time to accumulate scar tissue.
keep to jello, pudding, popsicles, and other not very acidic foods. after a few days you can try soups or mac and cheese. maybe applesauce later too, after your tonsils arent so sensitive.
you will feel hungry a lot, (and lose a lot of weight..i lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks..that wasnt fun...) but its better than the pain from the tonsillectomy...if it hurts even when you arent eating (like mine) try to get an over the counter numbing spray, like for canker sores or tooth pain. it works long enough and well enough to eat with less pain. i would recommend lozenges too, but they taste totally disgusting and the spray works better.
personally i never used salt water...i used baking soda water. 1tsp per cup of water...gargle or swish it in your mouth for a while and the sting will go away if its unbearable.
the reason they keep getting more and more sore is because the pain medicine they gave you at the hospital finally wore off completely. after the first day, the next week is a total ****. the next week is better but still bad, but the third week is when you can start eating normally again.
hope you feel better soon!!!!! the pain is horrible but after the first month you wont have a sore throat again in your life!!

Aw...... I sympathise. My son had his tonsils out when he was 15. It will be a couple of weeks, I'm sorry to say. Chin up....soon be over and done with.

I know how you feel, I had my tonsils out when I was 17, and it was awful. It took a full week before the pain started to subside to a bearable level, and about 2 weeks for it to get better. I was really tearful too, its horrible being in that much pain all the time. They should have given you some decent painkillers though, you could ask for something stronger if they aren't helping, and you can also buy a numbing spray that might help. Try sucking the strepsils with the local anaesthetic in them too. It won't numb it completely but it will help alot. Hope you feel better soon x

PS - its a good excuse to eat loads of icecream and ice lollies, try eating an ice lolly before your meal and after, and stick to stuff like soup, porridge, macaroni cheese etc rather than trying to eat crusty rolls. (They made me eat a crusty brown roll at the hospital before I was allowed out, to clear all the residue from my throat!)

Try gargling with warm salt water. That can help calm the irritation in your throat. Hang in there!

you should start feeling better soon and yes it is very painfull, dont let your painkillers run out, keep taking them even if your not in pain

I know how you feel..But I didnt get any kind of pain meds..they just said to take alive or something like that..I didnt eat at all..It took 3 weeks for me to be able to eat...I know it wasnt healthy but I took a PM and just slept the whole time..
