I need to know something about pain medication for 10 month old.?!

Question: My 10 month old daughter poured my freshly made chai tea down herself. She burnt herself really bad. Last night she woke up an hour before she was due for new medication in pain. I held of for about 45mins before I gave her the medication.

Her medication has paracetamol & codeine. because it had paracetamol I didn't want to give her panadol at the time because I would be doubling up. I also didn't want to give her nurophen because I didn't know if ibprofen is safe to use with codeine.

I just want to know is it possible to give her the medication an hour early if really needed like last night. She was almost screaming like when it happened. Warm milk calmed her down for a while.

Also Just then when I was double checking what was in the bottle I found a warning saying not for children under 2. It was prescribed for her at the hospital yesterday after they put her dressings on but is it still safe for her????

Sorry about spelling.

If the doctor prescribed it, it should be ok, they most likely lowered the dosage to fit her weight. If you are really worried just call the pharmacy and speak with the pharmacist, they will be able to answer your questions.

Did you give a 10 month old a gram of paracetamol with codeine. If you did you're a moron! Take the kid to A&E now and tell them what you did.

A baby should be given calpol, not adult medication.

BE CAREFUL!!
CALL A DOCTOR OR THE HOSPITAL !!!!
Always always use medication as a last resort with children.
I wouldnt add/mix ANY medications!
I know your child is in pain,BUT you MUST be careful!
CALL NOW!

I would be afraid to give it except just the way the hospital directed. She is so very tiny, you would not want to give her an "over dose." That would be very, very dangerous.

Comfort her the best you can, and stay with the directions of this very powerful med.

If this is what the hospital prescribed it is ok to give to her. If not then I would take her to the hospital and get her some kind of meds. You can give her tyenol in between the doses to help her. Hope that she gets better soon.

It is safe to alternate ibuprofen with the pain med. Give the panadol then 2 hrs later lbuprofen then the next dose of pandol at it's next scheduled time. I would probable keep up the alternation for at least 24 hrs to try to get through the most painful time then taper off. Also silversufadine is good and soothing cream on burns you could get from a dr. Good luck
