Hand and finger pain?!

Question: I have this terrific ache in my hands and my fingers. Its actually a bit distracting as I am trying to type and write and do things. It is especially troublesome in my knuckles. What are some ways I can alleviate this discomfort? Ibuprofen does not seem to help.

You could try anti-inflammatory gel such as Voltaren gel (Diclofenac Diethylammonium or diclofeac sodium), which is effective for joint and muscle pain.
I was also recommended 'dencorub arthritis cream' (triethanolamine salicylate), when I couldn't tale anti-inflamatories.
I tried these, when I developed hand pain after riding my motorbike. The gels and ointments have a quicker, more direct effect than tablets (stronger voltaren is available in tablet form, but you might need a prescription).
As a third possibility, your pharmacist might recommend a cortisone based cream; although I think these are more for irritation rather than inflammation.

Al these are available in Aust. over the counter, but I don't know what your local regulations are like..
Good luck!

It may be carpel tunnel. You can see a chiropractor. They can help you with that and it doesn't involve surgery or drugs.

Sorry but you need to have it diagnosed. Without knowing what causes the pain it's hard to know how to alleviate it.
In the joints? sounds like arthritis but could be anything.

describe to me more in detail about where exactly the pain is.

also, how would you describe the pain.

sharp dull throbbing prickly or stiff

when it comes to joint, tendon, nerve and muscular pains chiropractor will be the way to go. believe me. doctors just use "band aids" and drugs.

chiropractors actually fix the problem and can usually do it in one visit. chiropractors will probably see your pain as caused by bones, nerves and tendons all cramping together. they're job is to uncramp them, or to move then around, to lay them along side each other as normal. (some chiropractors all add some silly acupuncture techniques but whatever)

I had cramped ligaments and carpals. doctors gave me ibuprofen and told me I was developing arthritous and that I would be stuck with it for the rest of my life.

I saw a chiropractor's assistant the next week (they where on break and stopped into my restaurant for lunch and I told them of my problem) and they fixed me within 2 minutes, for free, and while I was on the clock.

it took about 3 years for it to return, but I asked my girlfriend to use the same technique I gleamed from the chiropractor and it was successful after 4 attempts. (less than five minutes.. again, free)

its been approximately 5 years since I've felt any pain.

another note on doctors:

broke the top of my small metacarpal
american doctors casted me, gave me pain pills.
charged me 350 dollars.

3 days later
went to london. saw the doctors there.
they x-rayed me and laughed hysterically.
stated the amercian doctors over treated me to allow them to raise the price on me, (aka ripped me off)
took the cast OFF. taped my finger up, gave me more pain meds.
cost ------ free (they offer free health care)

that cast cost me to not be allowed to fly for 2 days because of possible swelling due to air cabin pressure.

those doctors could have cost me an extra 800 to buy a new ticket.

You need to be diagnosed properly by a real doctor. I will not advice you to see a chiropractor since their practice is not recognized by the medical society as a real medicine.

Sounds like it could be arthritis pain, use aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, these usually help.

Hi Chiropractors seem to be your best bet, several of my friends have been to them and they sorted them out, my son could not work for about one year because of pain and now he is cured after visiting a Chiropractor.

You're going to think I'm WAY OUT THERE, but it sounds like you have the beginnings of arthritis, which I suffer from as well. About six months ago someone told me that 80% of this pain could be alleviated by drinking concentrated cherry juice! So, every day, with my glass of O.J. (can't drink cherry juice straight, it's too bitter), I add 2 Tbsp of the cherry juice and drink up. It took about a month for it to begin taking effect, but let me tell you...........it's a remedy from mother nature that really works. Try it...what have you got to lose except your pain? Good luck!
