How does it typically take for a strained muscle to heal?!

Question: Over 2 months ago I was working out with a weight machine and strained my shoulder/arm/sub-scapular muscles. It still hurts A LOT!

I hesitate going to the doctor since they will charge me $25 and just tell me it's a "soft tissue" injury and I have to live with it. I've used heat and had numerous massages but I'm still in lots of pain. Any suggestions?

I have recently strained muscles in my arms and abdomen (childbirth). The pain lasted for no more than 6 weeks. If I was in pain for over 8 weeks, the $25 would be worth knowing I was okay and perhaps a prescription for the pain.

This is probably longer than one should experience with a muscle strain.

Even if it was a particularly "bad" strain, it should be gradually feeling better and better.

If you think your progress is plateauing, one must consider the possiblility of tendonous or ligamentous damage.

Time to get it checked out by your MD and get into PT so a more thorough musculoskeletal exam can be done.

A good chiropractor can handle that a lot better than a general practicing MD. When you pull a muscle, not only does you muscle get strained but your bones and ligaments could go out of alignment. A lot of pain from muscle strain could be joint pain and not just the muscle. A good chiro will be able to assess the source of the pain and do the right adjustment. Sometimes some vitamins and minerals are prescribed to help rebuild the ligaments and tissues.
