Is my ankle broken/fractured or is just badly sprained?!

Question: Is my ankle broken/fractured or is just badly sprained!?
About a week ago I sprained my ankle!. I've sprained my ankle several times before, but the pain this time around was worse than any I've ever felt!.

I couldn't move my foot or toes for two hours and at the hospital the x-rays didn't show any breaks or fractures and they told me it was just sprained!.

However, my ankle is still really sore and I can only walk on it for a couple of mintues before the pain gets unbearable!. It' still swollent and is really badly bruised, and I get a weird burning sensation if I put too much weight on it for a long period of time!.

I was just wondering if it is just a really bad sprain, or have I possibley broken/fracutred it!? I've been told that fractures can often take a while to show up on an x-ray, which would explain why it never showed up at the hospital!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

On Wednesday I too "sprained" my ankle!. It is much much worse than ever before and the doctors in the ER told me that sometimes hairline fractures DONT show up on the Xrays so if in a week it is still bad to come back for more Xrays!. It sounds like you and I have the same symptoms too!. If you dont have the cramping and aching in your leg, you probably didnt tear the ligament!. I suggest going back to the doctors!.

This also happened to a friend of mine who ended up with a fracture they found 3 weeks laterWww@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like you may have torn some ligaments (bad sprain)!. I would keep off that foot!. Ice it, keep it elevated and wear a tencer!.

If it hurts, don't walk on it - get some crutches and keep it up during the day!.

If you still can't walk on your foot in 2 weeks, revisit the doc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would return to the ER and get it x-rayed again!. There could have been a hairline fracture, or it could be a VERY bad sprain, or whatever!. Get it checked again!. After a week, it should have at least started to get better!.

Besides, when you have a sprain, you should be keeping off of it!. Is it wrapped in a bandage or anything!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I personally have never heard of a fracture "taking a while to show up on an x-ray" however, it could be a problem with the ligaments or tendons!. I would go get it checked out!.

Take an inflammatory (ibuprophen or advil), rest it, Ice for 20 min break for 5 then warm compress for 10 and repeat!.

Hope that helpsWww@Answer-Health@Com

You should trust what they told you at the hospital, a bad sprain can be extremely painful so thats most likely the problem!. If it persists go see your own gpWww@Answer-Health@Com

if its broken it will have shown on the inital xrays!.!.!.

u could have torn a ligament and THAT wouldnt have shown up on the xrays!.!.!. u need to see an ortho and have an MRI done!.!.!.

often bad sprains will hurt worse then breaks!.!.!.

inthe meantime keep the weight off ur foot!.!.!.if it hurst then dont put any weight on it!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
