Local Drs not helping with hurt knee, do i need an MRI?!

Question: Local Drs not helping with hurt knee, do i need an MRI!?
Last week while playing football I sliped on the wet grass and my knee bent back and I heard a pop!. Imediatly following my knee started to swell and I could not stand!. I went to the clinic within two hrs and the DR took some X-rays!. Said nothing was broken and gave me some anti-swelling meds and left it at that!. He never actualy touched my knee!. Now a week later I still have pain and my leg can not go straight or bent past 90*!. I saw the DR again and again never touched my knee to examin it even after i told him that on my rt thigh rt side just above the knee there is a lump, feels live a golfball!. The knee reguraly looses stability!. I cannot choose what dr I see due to the fact that I am in the military and our clinic is full mostly of local nationals, for me to get an MRI I would need to go to Germany wich is like 3 hrs away!. I did make another appt with an amererican military dr for monday, earliest i could get!. I think I tore a ligament and I am tired of waiting, any ideas!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are a number of possible injuries that could have been sustained!. Meniscal, ligamental, and capsular are some of them!. With the knee going backwards you could have sustained a hyperextension injury!. The swelling on the lateral aspect of the thigh is also concerning me!. The best thing that you need to do is to see an orthopedist and he will most likely recommend a MRI!. Keep the knee elevated, place ice on it for about fifteen minutes out of every hour, and keep an elastic bandage on the knee!. Don't wrap the bandage too tight for it will restrict circulation!. It sounds to me like you have a torn ACL!. I experienced this 2 years ago and had to have an MRI and then surgery! This is not a fun surgery to go through; be prepared for some excruciating pain and months of rehab to follow!. Hopefully I will be wrong, but it sure sounds the same!.!.!.sorry!. :(

Get to an orthopedic doctor soon!.!.!.good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Let me tell you that x-rays sometimes are not effective!. I got kidney stones and I did a lot of test including x-rays and there were nothing but the pain was killing me! I did CT Scan and there it was! My husband had knee pain and he did and x-rays there's nothing, the pain is there and he needs an MRI!.

So I really suggest you to do the MRI as soon as possible, to see what u got and if any treatment is need it, you waited to much!. Must take more care of your health!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You may have torn a ligament!. If so the best thing to do is keep weight off the leg as much as possible!. Ligaments take 4-6 weeks to heal completely!.

The lump just above your knee is probably swelling!. Get some ice on it as often as you can!. Also message it with your fingers to help the blood flow into the area!. This will help the healing process!.

You should also consider seeing a good chiropractor if this is possible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like a classic ACL tear, a pop followed by severe swelling and instability!.!.!.!.those are all the main signs of an acl tear!. You should wait until you see an orthopedic surgeon!. In the mean while control the swelling in your knee by using ice packs for 20 minutes several times daily!.

The other thing you need to be aware of muscle atrophy (shrinking of muscle tissue in your quad)!. No matter what you actual injury is, when you have significant swelling in your knee you while loose muscle mass very very very quick!. You need to start some light exercises to minimize this effect!.
