I suffer from this also and firstly wish to sympathise with you :( My pain mainly shoots between my buttock and my knee, so I try to sit with a cushion and/or a hot water bottle under the affected thigh if I am sitting!.

Be sure to stretch the area on a daily basis, this will hopefully ease constriction around the sciatic nerve and reduce frequency of the pain!. If you know someone skilled in massage, get them to help you out with your lower back & upper legs as well :)

Also, be mindful of what you lift and how you twist your body when turning around - sharp movements and heavy lifting are definite no-nos!

I hope this improves for you soon!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know strengthening lower back muscles is the main recommendation (see link - Google is a good friend of mine!)!. Many years ago, a friend told me that two hours before doing any form of exercise, she took two aspirin (to get "it" before "it" gets you) and aspirin is still the safest and best to use for muscle pain and I do find it effective for sciatic nerve pain, as well!. Aleve and other NSAIDS damage both the upper and lower gastro-intestinal tract and can cause liver damage so I don't recommend using more than one per week!.
I've had sciatica since age19 (51 yrs!. ago!) and have found that 10 mins!. laying on a heating pad helps - I don't do more than 10 mins!. as am fearful I'll cause swelling which will, then, need to be reduced with ice!. You may, however, find that 10 mins!. of ice gives you more relief than heat - this is one you'll have to experiment with!.

Remember - slow knee-bends to lift plus turning your feet and body at the same time instead of twisting at the waist!. And be careful when bending at the too low American bathroom sink when brushing your teeth - this is the one that, usually, gets me!.
Hope you find some of this info' helpful!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You apparently over stretched the nerve or may even have a small tear!. When I had it, it was overstretched and they put me on a muscle relaxer, Soma, and massaged the side which I hurt!. While being massaged, I was told to stretch that nerve by laying flat on the bed, bend my knee and bring it forward close enough for me to grab with my hands, then pull the bent leg as far toward me as I could get it, and hold for a while, then let it back down on the bed to the straight position, slowly!. Then do that several more times!. It really helped!. Before they massaged my back, they would lay a moist heated towel along that nerve!. So I got my wife to lay hot moist towels on my lower back!. Do this by soaking the towel with hot water, ring it out, then apply!. I had her have a second towel handy to replace the first one when it began to cool!. I had her to do this until my skin became a little red!. She then would massage along that nerve, and while doing so, rubbed it with Aspercreme Cream!. I didn't take the muscle relaxer more than a couple days!. I don't take any pills unless they are absolutely required!. I was also told to strengthen my lower back muscles by laying flat in bed, both legs straight, then lift the feet and legs about 8 inches or so, hold until I couldn't hold anymore, then let them back down slowly, then repeat several times!. I would do this at night when going to bed, and again in the morning before getting up for the day!. My pain was gone in no time!. Also if you have to lift anything heavy, bend down with your knees, grab hold of what you are lifting, and let the legs do the work, not your back!. Best of luck to you young lady!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
