Hi i am now prescribed 80mg of oxycontin for my shattered wrist but i am too scared to take it since it is a large dosage!. Is this too much!? What will it feel like!?Will it affect my health !? please help!. thank you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are in alot of pain, it will dull the pain and may make you a little sleepy!. If you are afraid of the dose, take half at first to see how well it works for you!.!. You may find a half dose works just fine!.
Don't avoid taking the prescribed medicine, you need to be able to start healing!. Being in less pain will help!. And don't worry about becoming addicted, the prescription the doctor gave you probably doesn't have enough pills in it to cause you to get addicted!. If the dose is right for you, it should reduce the pain you have in your wrist and you shouldn't feel much else!. Some people become very nauseous with drugs like that, others can become disoriented and delerious, but most people have few problems with it and get good pain relief!. For short courses of treatment, it's a very good drug, and the vast majority of people who take it for legitimate pain have no trouble at all stopping when they no longer need it!.
80mg is a bit of a high dose, but as I haven't examined you and know nothing about your medical history, I really don't have anything intelligent to say on what the most appropriate dose for you is, try it and if you have side-effects, give your doctor a call and talk to him about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just take it as doctor prescribed!. You may start feeling a little to good but will not make you feel bad!. Everyone has diffrent reactions to medicine!. If it was bad for you the doc would have not prescribed it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
That is a really high dose to start on!!!!. I don't care what anyone here says!. I've been taking pain meds for 7 years and there isn'tmuch I haven't been on!. And I know I've never started any medication at that level and my neck was broke!.
If you haven't taken them before they are going to impair you enough to not drive for a few days!. 80mg!. is a pretty high dose to start on!. I'm kind of surpised!. The norm would be to start you at 20-40mg!. If you start itching real bad I would call the doctor!.

I would feel the difference if I started taking 80's for a few days!. So if you haven't been on any opiates I would double check with your doctor!. I had surgery 2 years ago, I didnt let the doctor put one narc in me!. Aside from the anestesia
I just smoked weed to manage pain!.!.

80mg is very high!. My mother has Multiple Sclerosis and takes 40mg, which just was upped to that because her tolenance was low due to taking 20mg for 8 years!. Umm, but yeah I would be afraid to take that high dose!. Have you taken a OC before!? How high is your pain level!? I would speak to my Dr!. first, I know he perscribed it for you!.!.!. but you need to voice your concerns to him!. Hmm hard to say what you would feel like for me, never taken one so high!. it sounds like alot!. if you are sitting here typing then perhaps your pain isnt 'that' bad and you could just take 600mg of ibuprophen and see how that helps!. are you sure they didnt give you oxycodone!? that would be better for your situation!. oxycontin is for chronic pain usually not acute pain that you have!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Don't take it until you check with the Pharmacist and/or the doctor!. If they aren't available right now call the ER or poision control or someone in the know first!. Check the PDR (Physician's Desk Reference)!. It says one should not start on that high a dose, and shouldn't take that high a dose until a tolerance for narcotics has been built up!. I'm very serious about this, it can affect your breathing!. Mention what the PDR says and what I've just stated!. Doctors and Pharmacists make mistakes all the time!. I'm sorry, but the advice you've received that just because the doctor said so it is correct, is very dangerous thinking for anyone!. Why didn't the doctor start you out on a lower dose!? Anyway, just double check to be certain that it is the right dose to start with, but make sure you do take something for the pain, as being in pain is very unhealthy too!. As long as you take it as directed for the pain, you will not get addicted!. If you take it to get high, watch out!. I take oxy and have for over 3 years!. But, I have chronic pain (fibri, cfd, etc)!. If taken as directed for pain, you cannot get addicted (contrary to popular belief)!.

Hmm!.!.!. ok well!.!.!. if they prescribed it clearly it's for pain management and they feel it's enough!. There's a down side though people do get hooked!.!.!. Most people start on oc and go into heroin!. Others are just content to break it up and sniff it--but heroin is way cheaper!. If you don't have an addictive personality or think of it as a leisure activity you should be fine :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
