Question: What causes some people's bodies to jerk as they are falling asleep!?
Sometimes when I'm about to fall asleep, my whole body jerks and it wakes me up!. I've seen other people jerk in their sleep too, but mostly it's with legs or arms!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's some kind of reflex action - as you fall asleep, part of your mind misreads it as the body dying, so sends an impulse to snap you of it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

People can experience myoclonus("myo" means muscle and "clonus" means rapidly jerking or twitching of a muscle) in hiccups or in a sudden jerk that may wake you up as you're just falling asleep!. These things are normal!. Myoclonus can also be seen with people who have epilepsy, but they are a type of seizure - appropriately called myclonic seizures!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
