But in school ive been hearing that your blood is really blue but right when it hits chemicals in oxygen then it turns red!. Me, personally, i doubt that its actually blue!. Then my friend said!.!.!."then why are your veins blue!? when you look at them!. its because of the blood running through them!."

I am a nurse, and I have never seen blue blood!. The reason being is that ALL blood has oxygen on the hemoglobin! Now, The more oxygen a red blood cell (RBC) has, the brighter red it will be! If you are drawing arterial blood the blood should be a very bright red since the hemoglobin has not dropped off the oxygen yet!. If you are drawing venous blood, it will be a very dark red, because the hemoglobin has already dropped off its oxygen!. However, the Hemoglobin does retain a small amount of oxygen!. If you test arterial blood the percent of oxygen on it should be 95-100%, Venous blood when tested will be 60-80%!. Oxygen levels in a person can reach 0!. However they are most likely dead, or will recieve brain injuries to the point that they will be a veggie for the rest of their breathing life!. Hope that expalins a little better!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your blood is most definately red despite the blueblood and oxygen theoery!. In your blood, there are 4 components!. Platelets (which help clot your blood when you cut yourself), plasma (which carries round all the other components in your blood!. It's a bit like yellow water and goes turns into pus when you cut yourself), white blood cells which help fight off infection an red blood cells!. Red blood cells contain the chemical haemoglobin which makes them red!. The haemoglobin sticks to the red blood cells and carries the oxygen round the body!. Therefore, it's not true that your blood is blue because there is oxygen in your blood which makes it before it even reaches the air!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
