Question: Can cervical spinal surgery for c5-c6 on right side cause slight spinal curve to the right!?
Hello as I have written before I had cervical spinal surgery to repair c5-c6 twice on the right side!. I went for first post-surgery physiotherapy appointment today!. During evaluation I let her know about upper back pain (which is painful and feels like a hump when I am sitting) since having the first time in october 2007!. The therapist checked out my upper back and stated there is a slight curve to the right and also my shoulder height on the right is lower by about 1/2 inch!. I was wondering can cervical spinal injury and then surgery cause this type of deformit!. I was injured back in 2004 but family dr!. did not refer me to specialist and finally i changed dr!. and new dr!. referred me to specialist last year and finally the correction was made to my cervical-spine, but in the first surgery the disc collapsed and then another surgery was done in feb!. 08, but I started feeling this pain in upper back after the first surgery!. Please no bashing answers!. thank you to all who do answerWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The simple answer is no! What happens is we feel pain and so we see a Doctor in hope they will help, but in your case he did not!. Meanwhile we are still in pain and so we do what comes naturally, we shift our gait! Like if you break an ankle, have it put in a cast, you do not walk on the ankle for several weeks, so now you only have one good leg to take the weight of the body!. Therefore the slack weight is taken by the shoulders via crutches and most people on crutches are lopsided, throwing their body into some abnormal swaying action to counter balance the weight!. That puts other joints under stress!. You shifted your weight, stance, gait to make allowances for your neck back in 2004 and continued this new unhealthy upright stance until after the neck surgery!. Now you have got stuck in the abnormal stance, so now you have to correct all that misalignment!. That means you will have to strengthen all the muscles you allowed to go to waste while you were in the incorrect gait position and that is what PT do!. Best of LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com
