Well it is important to effectively treat this injury now in order to avoid potential future issues!. If you haven't already done so, make sure you implement the R!.I!.C!.E!.R!. regime (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation and Referral to a sports doctor)!. So, as soon as a hamstring injury occurs, rest the injured limb, apply ice to the effected area, apply a compression bandage and elevate the limb if possible!. This treatment needs to continue for at least 48 to 72 hours!.
You should see a sports doctor or a physiotherapist who should give you an in depth strengthening and stretching exercise routine!.
We sometimes forget the adverse effects stretching has on injury treatment and injury prevention!. I have included a link to an article on hamstring injuries from this amazing site dedicated to stretching and sports injury!.
