Question: I have been using an antibiotic ointment for a bad knee injury but the wound became infected later!.!?
I took a single dose antibiotic yesterday then washed my wound today with boiled guava decoction!. Should I stop the topical ointment and just wait for the oral dose to work!? A whitish film has developed on the wound and an occasional pus!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should never start an antibiotic and then stop it, you need to take it until the end!. A wound can develop slough( the white stuff which is dead tissue and cells) and not be infected!. The pus may just be the wound draining out the old tissue and dead cells, which is good because you don't want it to stay in the wound!. As long as it does not have an odor to it or an odd color!.
Maybe disregard the topical treatment (was it a docs order) and continue with the oral dose!.
In my experience as a nurse we only clean wounds with Saline (Salt Water) and then put a very clean or sterile dressing on it to wick away drainage (in your case you could use some gauze) Sometimes wounds have to get worse before they get better!.!.!.!.
I do have the mind set that you just had this knee injury and are just starting treatments to care for it!?!?!.!.!.!. I may be wrong though, it's just the way I read your post!. I hope I could be of some help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
