Is what this physiotherapist did safe and legal?!

Question: Is what this physiotherapist did safe and legal!?
I went to the physiotherapist the other day for lower back/pelvis pain!. After massaging that area, he said tension can extend up to the upper back (even though I wasn't feeling anything up there) and without telling me what he was going to do, that he was going to crack my back, and I'd have said no, he pushed down hard on my thoracic spine a few times while telling me to hold in my breath and releasing it!. I knew he was trying to crack my back and I tensed up my back muscles, and after a few times he stopped and told me my back muscles were too tight!. I think he knew I was tensing up on purpose and thats why he stopped!. Today I feel neck pain, and pain in the thoracic spine that I didn't have before, its like I created another problem for myself by going to this guy!. Is this a dangerous exercise!? Is he allowed to do it!? Without any x-rays either!? Could he have slipped a bone, disc, or malaligned my spine by pushing it down like hard like that!? Was he supposed to tell me first!? ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Laws on who can do spinal manipulation vary from state to state!. Thoracic manipulations are not generally dangerous!. X-rays are not needed to identify a misaligned spine, you can palpate it by hand!.
Since the erector spinae mucsles as a group go from the pelvis to the base of the skull it made sense for him to work on your T-spine!. This would also explain your new pain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A physiotherapist should not do this a chiropractor should, my mom had back problems and they cracked her back while telling her not to tense up!. I think he should have told you first, but not for necks, that is completey different!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

only chiropractors should be doing what he tried to do,
call your regular health physician, and report this!.
I don't think what he did was a good thing, but, I could be wrong, as I am not a dr!. eitherWww@Answer-Health@Com

Cracking back is not good , I had my lower back click over and this lady physio attempted to crack it , she rolled me 3 times back and forth and then put all her weight on my back in some half assed attempt to right it , needless to say it did not work !. This Jekyll and Hyde had to get the Doctor next door to administer me Valium to dull the pain !. Generally thay dont tell you , so you dont tense up , but , it can cause severe damage , more than likely you have pinched a nerve because of it !. My advice to you is to see another doctor then phone the physio explain what has happened , and phone your lawyer as well !. If your pelvis is troubling you , then it is more likely Rhumetism that you have , I suggest an extended hot bath to give relief , also drinking apple cider is good for joint pain !. I hope this was of help cheers Brian !.Www@Answer-Health@Com
