Question: Will I get tetanus infection if I tore my toe with a track spike!?
I made a deep scratch on my toe when I was taking off my track spikes (after running an event) & it bled & now it hurts!. I put Neosporin and peroxide and washed it!. I won't get any infection will I!? because tetanus infection sometimes comes when someone's skin is torn with metal, I think!. I already had my tetanus shotWww@Answer-Health@Com

Three factors increase the likelihood of tetanus!.
1) Deep puncture wound (as opposed to cut, tear or scrape)
2) Rusty metal
3) Animal feces in the area
You had none of these factors!. The best thing you can do prevent tetanus is clean thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide (it is very toxic to the tetanus bacteria)!. You have done this so you are probably in good shape!. You are probably also vaccinated against tetanus (most school age kids are)!. The DPT vaccine covers tetanus!.
If you get a fever or muscle stiffness (particularly in your jaw!. See a doctor immediately!. If redness, swelling, pain and heat develops in the area surrounding the wound or if puss shows clean the wound again with hydrogen peroxide and see a doctor at your next convenience!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I doubt it!. Apart from the fact that you have had your booster shot, tetanus is more of a soil bug!. The other answer is right - rusty metal can be involved as it can be out in soil areas where the bugs can be eg!. animal areas, and it is rough - it is not about the metal or the rust itself so much!. I guess it depends where you have been running, but it does not sound likely - try looking up tetanus and see for yourself!. You would be at more risk of other infections I would imagine, if any!. IF YOU HAVE HAD A TETNUS SHOT IN THE PAST 5 YEARS YOU SHOULD BE OK!. KEEP ON DOING THE ANTIBIOTIC CREAM AND PEROXIDE!. WASH IT REAL GOOD ALSO WITH AN ANTIBACTERIA SOAPWww@Answer-Health@Com
