Why would I need a CAT scan if nothing showed up on my x-ray?!

Question: Why would I need a CAT scan if nothing showed up on my x-ray!?
I had x-rays taken of my lower left rib cage on 4/29/08!. There is swelling, and lots of pain!. The radiologist said there was no fractures or breaks but if the pain and swelling doesn't go away in 4 to 5 days I need to have a CAT scan!. Why would I need a CAT scan if nothing showed up on my x-ray!?Should I be worried!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The reason you are having a CT scan is that the Xray showed nothing!. You still have unexplained symptoms so to complete the diagnosis the doctor will use a test that examines more than an xray does!. it is good medicine to start with the simpler test as indicated by the symptoms then move to more extensive (and expensive) tests to complete the diagnosis!. The CT Scan doesnt hurt and has no side effects!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

sometimes x-rays doesn't show everything when you have a cat scan it catches every detail I have had a few of these done and they found out it was a fracture that the x-ray did't catch you should not worry it does not mean anything bad is wrongWww@Answer-Health@Com

X-rays don't show soft tissues like internal organs -- CAT-scans do!. The doctor wants to know if there's a problem with these organs!. Don't start worrying before you have information!. Lots of problems are benign or easily fixed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The CAT scan can see if there is anything wrong with your organs or any kind of growth that shouldn't be there!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the x ray doesnt work on some people but i think CAT scans are better they bearly even touch u and no u shouldnt be worried just dont try to move around as muchWww@Answer-Health@Com
