How do I stop cutting ?!


Question: How do I stop cutting !?
I have been cutting for 2 years, I'm 15 and no matter what I try I always go back to cutting!.!.!.
I stop for like 3 or 4 months then go right back to it!.!.!. any suggestions !?

Hi there,
The cutting is a symptom of a deeper issue!. I suspect that you have a need to really connect with yourself, with who you really are!. And to feel that that person that you are is real and worthwhile and that you are loveable!.
I think you need to find a way to feel more centered within yourself!. Real satisfaction comes from truly being yourself, but you have to have the courage to stay with your inner emotional pain, holding on to yourself through all the self doubts, all the pain, all the emptiness, the fear, and the rage!.
Eventually you will come out the other side!.

Talking is really important!. Psychotherapy may help you, so long as you can find a therapist who can handle that level of anguish and stay supportively with you as you go through it without trying to 'make it all better', or escaping into intellectualism!.

Working with your emotions and body would be very good!. Perhaps some yoga or Tai Chi!.

Painting, drawing or dance could really help you too!. Really that is all about communication!. Finding a way to communicate the difficult experience you have, bringing yourself back into relationship with yourself and others!.

Try not to focus too much on the cutting!. If you can resist it and stay conscious of your emotions!.!. that is helpful!.
But don't be hard on yourself if you can't!. It is a lot to do with learning compassion for yourself and learning to be accepting!.

I used to cut, I don't know about you, but for me it was mainly for two reasons, to give myself pain [to mske me feel like i could control the pain in my life], and the actual visual, so honestly, heres what worked for me, I would take scrunchies or rubber bands and snap them whenever i wanted to cut, it provided the pain without the danger, and I would carry a red pen around, and whenever I needed to cut, I'd also draw a red line [symbolizing blood or bleeding], where I wanted to cut!.

Cutting yourself is an addiction!. It gives you an adrenaline rush, and that's why you keep going back to it!. Try to find something that gives you the same rush, and put it in its place!.
An activity of some sort!. Running, or something!.!. anytime you feel the urge coming on, go and do that activity!.
Or if you have a friend, it doesn't even have to be a friend!.!. just someone that wants to help you!.!. talk to them about it and whenever you feel the urge!.!. call them!. And they could help you and talk you through it!.
