well its really hard to tell what your recovery time is!.!.!.!.if you tore something, it depends if you will have surgery on it and also how old you are!. if you tear your ACL and have surgery on it, it is usually at least 6 months recovery if you want to go bacak into a highly physical activity!. if you strain a ligament, you could probably get by with a brace and not surgery!. you shuold see if you can get an MRI!. the younger you are, the easier it is to recover from surgery or even strained ligaments!.

personally, i have had 2 knee surgeries!. one when i was 16 and one when i was 17!. my first surgery, they reconstructed my ACL and meniscus and came back 8 months after surgery and tore my ACL again!. my second surgery, i waited 8 months again and i am fine to the day!. after i first injured my knee and had surgery, i had swelling for a good year!. it just went away with time!. it took about a year and a half for it all to go away!. my advice if you want to keep your knee free from injury: do a lot of thigh and hamstring strengthening exercises!. plyometrics are very good for strengthening your legs!. and make sure you get a good brace!.!.!. your doctor may be able to order you a personalized, fitted brace whihc will give you much more support and protection!.

good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The main issue in your situation is come away from this event with minimal scar tissue!. No matter, you will have some scarring!. What you want to be careful of mostly is re-injury!. Inflammation sometimes helps provide protection, via limiting movement, until such time your injury has a better opportunity to heal!. Movement around an injury site sometimes results in additional swelling!. R!.I!.C!.E!. = rest, ice, compression and elevation!. More info avail!. at link below!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Be more careful when you twist your knee around and how fast you make your knee move!.
You should lay flat and elevate your leg, do not bend your knee, put pillows under your leg until your leg is lifted above your heart!.
Then put Ice on for 20 min and off 20 min!. The least you should keep the ice on is 10min!. on and 10min!. off
The most is 30min!. on and 30min!. off!.
You can also do that with warm things on your knee!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depends if it's medial or cruciate ligaments!. You're probably looking at somewhere around a month before you'll get full mobility in it!. The swelling will go down in a week or so!. Try using brufen and ice packs to help speed it up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Please stop using the hot water and stick with ice packs and elevate your leg!. Also Motrin or something just like it to assist in reducing the swelling!. I just had a total knee replacement a few months ago and know any joint injury is really painful!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I tore a ligement in my knee in 6th grade, and my Dad is a physical therapist!. For me, it took a few weeks for a 100% recovery!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
