Coccyx/ tailbone injuries?!

Question: Coccyx/ tailbone injuries!?
i fell off a horse onto my bum this July (2007)
I was having pretty bad tailbone pain, every time i got off a horse after that it hurt a lot!. Since i was at camp (riding camp, so lots of tailbone ouchies) i had to wait two weeks until i could ask my mom/ doctor about it, so a few months after i got back from camp, my mom took me to the doctor!.

he ordered an x-ray, then said that the x-ray tech did it wrong and he couldn't see it very well but he said that he assumed it wasn't broken, judging by the crappy picture!.

well, now its may, and my tailbone STILL hurts!. like, a lot!. so, what should I do!. its been like ten months!. if it's not broken there is nothing i can do about it!. and my mom told me to stop taking advil so i won't get addicted or some hairbrain theory!.

any suggestions!? has anyone had this type of injury persist for this long!? when does the pain finally go away!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You may have either fractured it or dislocated it!. See an orthopedic doctor or a chiropractor who knows how to set it!. In the mean time, get yourself a coccyx seat cushion to protect your coccyx until it heals up properly!. They're available at your local pharmacy, if not, then tell the manager or pharmacist to order one for you!. The wholesaler usually delivers next business day!. The cushion usually goes for $20-35!. If you want the memory foam cushion one, Sharper Image or Brookstone Brothers sells one for $35-50!. I also recommend to put a cold pack there, 20 mins on, 40 mins off!. Repeat as necessary until swelling goes down!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I highly doubt that the tech did it wrong!. For some reason, doctors tell patients that and it isn't true!. The coccyx is a tiny little bone that is very difficult to see on x-ray because it is usually obsurred by fecal matter!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Even if it had been broken there isn't anything that could be done!. Could be a bone bruise or a torn muscle/ligament and those take forever to heal, because its not like you can "stay off it"!. Try alternating ice and heat!. When you sit down don't sit erect, sit leaning forward so that there is no pressure on coccyx area, or better yet, lean onto one side and sit, or lay with a pillow between your knees
When I was 10, I fell of a 15 ft wall flat on my back, got the wind knocked out of me!. Even though my legs went numb for a week, I was told that there was no break, just to rest and stay off it, which was no problem because I couldn't feel my legs therefore couldn't walk!. I did ice it and after a couple weeks I could walk slowly and pain wasn't bad!. I was living in Ecuador at the time and back in the 60's pain killers of any type were not an option!. I found out 20+ years later that I had in fact broken it in 2 places!. Still have some issues if I don't sit properly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
