Question: Iam 17 and iam getting my tonsils out tomorrow along with nose reconstruction surgery!?
I need to know what foods i can eat!? and also what they are going to do to me at the hospital, and am i allowed to have fake nails!? or do i have to take them off!? Also they told me i cant eat, drink, or take a shower after 12PM so can i brush my teeth in the morning!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'll tell you what I tell my own surgery patients!. Keep in mind every surgeon has his/her own preferences:
1!. You can eat absolutely anything you want, as long as it is small bites and chewed very well!. Try to avoid red food, because if you get nauseated, the red food can be mistaken for blood!. Otherwise, if you want pizza and chips, go for it!. This prevents the formation of large scabs where your tonsils once were!. Make sure you are drinking lots of fluids for about 3 weeks after your surgery!.
2!. When you get to the hospital, your parents and you will go to the pre-op area!. The nurse will check your vital signs and talk to you and your parents about your medical history and any risk factors you may have!. You will change into a gown (remove ALL clothing) and climb onto a gurney!. The nurse will start an IV for giving you medicines!. Once the anesthesia docs see you , you may be given some nerve medicine!. when you go into the OR, you will be kind of silly (medicine is good!)!. You will move over to another bed and vital sign monitors will be put on again!. The anesthetist will give you some oxygen to breathe and sneak some sleepy stuff into your IV!. Next thing you will know is you're waking up with a very sore throat!.
3!. We prefer to have natural, non-painted nails!. It makes it a lot easier for us to check your oxygenation through a monitor on your finger!. They CAN, however, use your toe, or your ear!.
4!. No eating or drinking after midnight, and this includes gum!. You can brush your teeth (it is recommended!) I've never heard of ANY surgeon saying that you couldn't shower!. Just do not use any lotions or perfumes!. Don't wear makeup, either!.

You will need to remove your fake nails, finger nail polish is not allowed either!.
I am not sure why they told you not to shower after 12pm, that has no effect on your up-coming stay!.
You are not suppose to eat or drink, this lowers the change of you throwing up!.!.!.!.but I think brushing your teeth will be okay!.
When you get to the hospital, they will get all your information and take you back to get you ready--take vitals and they will probably give you a liquid medicine by mouth or in your IV to relax you!.
I am not sure what you will be allowed to eat after the surgery, when you have tonsils out you only want cold liquids anyways for a few days!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
