Question: Has anyone ever had a stress fracture to your fifth metatarsal!?
The fifth Metatarsal is the bone that runs from the midfoot to the base of the small toe!.

I had one!. No surgery!. Mine was nasty, too, it was split sorta horizontally!. I had a cast to the knee for a few months, then a walking cast for a few more months!.
Blood flow isn't all that great in this area!. Once you get the cast (and you must get the cast or it will never, ever, ever heal properly), get your butt & leg straight up against the wall for a few minutes a few times a day!. It gets the old blood outta there and will stimulate bone growth!.

my sister did this and no she did not have to have surgery!. It really depends on how bad of a break it was!. If it was a complete fracture then you might need a pin or something put in, but if it was a hairline fracture where it didn't break the bone completely in two then the doctor might put you in a walking boot and on crutches for a couple weeks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
