You have to be open and honest with your doctor as well as a partner in your health care!. I would think that your doctor would be thrilled that you have found something that works and it is much weaker than what they are currently giving you!.

Don't let doctor's push you around, most think they know it all (they don't) the best want to have educated, informed patients!. It Hydrocodone works for you then tell him and ask for it and don't take no for an answer!. If he says no, then ask for a referral to a doctor that will help you get out of pain and off of meds that are not working for you!.

Hydrocodone for the most part works for my chronic pain, which is good as I have developed an allergy to Ultram and Morphine in the last ten years!. I am lucky that I have a doctor that works for me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just tell them!. There is no reason for them suspect anything espeically as you're asking for something so much weaker!. Most people have been prescribed vicodin at some time in their life!. Your doctor may not feel it's suitable because of the tylenol in it and the potential for kidney and liver damage but you can ask!.
But I have to tell you, I tried 8 or 9 meds, each for at least two weeks before we finally found a treatment that worked and I could tolerate!. It's frustrating but try to be patient!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hydrocodone (related to codeine) is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics!. It relieves pain!. Fentanyl is a narcotic (opioid) pain medicine!. Fentanyl is an opioid analgesic with a potency approximately ~81 times that of morphine!.
So what type of Arthritis do you have!? I am on Fentanyl as I have Arthritis and for Fibromyalgia they have me on another drug, as Fentanyl does not do much for Fibro!. I find it odd that you are wanting to reduce your pain medication, most people with Arthritis, try and increase it, due to pain!. However if you 'feel' you can get by on less medication then you should tell them!. Best of LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com

When talking about pain meds with docs, I try to focus on how a med helps or doesn't help with my life!.

I talk about whether I can sleep, move, keep active, eat enough, keep alert with a specific pill!. Anything you can say about how it affects your ability to function!.

I avoid talking about how I NEED pain meds, or being emotional about it!. It's hard, because I am emotional, but they REALLY don't want to hear it!. It makes us sound like druggies I guess!.
