I suffer from the same conditions and symptoms!. Here is what I have found helpful after a years suffering!.

1!. It helps to keep your bowels moving, it seems to control the pain!. Try Phillips milk of Magnesia!.

2!. Use a TENS unit in the morning and sit on a heating pad, both for 30 minutes!. Again do this if you have symptoms at night ot during the day!.

3!. Use Magnetic foam cusions to sit on!.

4!. Depending on your state, some drs can prescribe marijuana!. It helps with the "first thing in the morning" unbearable spasms!. Buy an inhaler and suck a few puffs out!.

5!. Use a cane the proper way!. THe cane should be carried in the opposite hand as the affected area and should spport the painful side as that foot hits the floor!.

6!. A "Mattress Genie" can help raise to a near sitting position and ease the pain of getting up!.

7!. My dr presribed a med called Terazosin which lets me sleep all night without getting up 2-3 times to pee!.

8!. A sciatic chair can raise you to a horizontal position to a standing position virtually pain free!.

9!. You should drink a few Jack Daniels nightly!.

Try these therapies and good luck!. I'm enjoying my treatments so much I;m leaning against an operation!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i had a ruptured disc sitting on my sciatic nerve right at L4-L5, NOTHING would help, and i do mean absolutely nothing, i couldn't find a doctor who would touch it and when i finally did, i ended up with arachnoiditis and post ruptured disc disorder, i had injections into my spine and it didn't help any, however, everyone is different, but my advice to u would be to see a surgeon as soon as its humanly possible, the longer that disc messes with your nerve, the more problems your likely to have after its all said and done!. i used a heating pad and was hopped on vicodin, muscle relaxers, and steriods, best of luck youWww@Answer-Health@Com

I had this and surgery was the only answer they could give me!. I did have a metal rod and screws put in my back and it did give me relief!. I tried the epidural steroids injections and had six but it didn't work and then I tried the surgery and it did!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Have the same problem, at first it was just terrible but in time I've gotten better thanks to my chiropractor!. The best treatment I think is something to help reduce the inflammation!. There are meds or natural things you can take like ginger root!.

Walking is very good, do as much as you can!. Ice (cold) I find works, heat makes it worse, I would not spend more than 10 minutes in a hot shower and don't use a hot tub!.

I also have a massage lady, she's helped me a lot!.
One thing I highly recommend is if you could get a Ceragem bed!. There's a free place here in Santa Monica calif where I go, it's does wonders!. At first it seemed to really hurt but later I got better!. Here's their website, the bed kinda expensive but I wish i could get one!.

Just wanted to add that I don't work for Ceragem or get recieve any gifts from them!. At first I thought all these claims they were making were just that, but after hearing many customers get up (in monterey park they would have customers talk about it while we were waiting to use the beds, these were people that I saw coming into the center most every day) and talk about how their health improved so I think it must be true,Www@Answer-Health@Com

The first thing I would ask is "what TYPE" of physical therapy treatment did you use!? Heat, massage and ultrasound, "core stabilization"!? These techniques have really proved to not have any validity in the treatment of radicular back pain!. Yet, "core stability" is focused on by so many pracitioners because its "the popular thing to do!." !.!.and so many patients like the massage and ultrasound, but when pressed often state that it only brings temporary relief!.

That being said, it might be time to consider seeing another PT who uses a different approach!.!.!.such as someone with a certification in mechanical diagnosis and therapy (http://www!.mckenziemdt!.org ) or someone with a manual therapy certification, etc!. Either way, if you've only been to one practioner, it's not fair to say "physical therapy didn't help" because there are many different appraoches!.

However, we must realize that not all cases of radicular back pain are reversible!.!.!.someone with a ruptured (sequestered) disc might be one such person!. Yet, without being assessment by an MDT provider, we cannot tell if the sequestration is the relavent issue or not!. Many times what shows up on an MRI and what the patient is experiencing are two different things not related to each other!.

If you have periods of being pain free, or if there are certain exercises that make you feel better, then you very well could continue to persue conservative treatment, and I would suggest an MDT certified provider if you havent' done so already!.

Finally, another thing to consider is that many people who were previously thought to have a problem that is irreversible with PT often got better with a combination of the injection AND physical therapy!.

Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com
