Well since I've suffered sprained ankles quite a few times and gotten physio for it , here's some basic first aid that you can do yourself at home that works to reduce swelling and pain very effectively!. get yourself 2 basins of water deep enough to cover your ankle entirely one filled with warm/tepid water the other with cold water now put your foot into the warm water hold in for 1 minute then dip your foot in the cold water again for a minute and keep alternating for about 10 times from warm to cold this opens up the blood vessels in your foot and helps the blood to flow more freely and eases the bruising in your ankle therefore helping with the pain!. You can strap up your ankle with one of those sports injuries support bandages and also raise your leg upon a cushion while your sleeping helps!. It will take a good while to get back to normal but you should try the warm /cold water treatment about 4 times day or when you get bad discomfortWww@Answer-Health@Com

yeah it sounds like it might be broken, or possibly fractured since you said you heard clicking!. i experienced something similar with my knee - i dislocated my kneecap and went to the ER where the doctors said it was sprained, but then i felt a clicking when i tried to bend my knee so i went to an orthopaedist!. he said i might've torn something so he sent me to get an MRI and CAT scan, and they clearly picked up what was wrong, which was actually a fracture that required surgery!. so my suggestion is for you to get an MRI and CAT scan as soon as you can, because they do complete full 360 degree x rays so they can pick up alot regular x rays often miss!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Did the doctor say it was a sprain!? A sprain means that you've damaged (torn or stretched) a ligament!. As opposed to a strain which is damage to a tendon!. Unfortunately, ligaments take a long time to heal (longer than muscles)!. It will hurt a lot and it will feel achy for a while!.

That 'clicking' is probably just adhesions in the ligament's swelling!. The swelling around the area is the body's attempt to protect and heal the area!. I'm sure your doctor would have told you, but try to keep the area elevated and iced and this should minimize the swelling!. It should mostly heal in 4-8 weeks, and might feel a little weak for months after that!.

Best thing to do is see a physiotherapist who can give you some good advice about how to deal with the injury now and in a month when you should be able to use it again!. You'll want to know how to let it heal properly so it won't be a long-term problem!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds sprained to me!. If broken you wouldn't be walking on it!. Takes a couple of weeks to get better!. Feel BetterWww@Answer-Health@Com
