A very heavy object fell onto the bridge of my foot - 5 weeks ago....still swoll!

Question: A very heavy object fell onto the bridge of my foot - 5 weeks ago!.!.!.!.still swollen!?
My foot immediately became very badly swollen!. I put in into cold water - and rested it for approximately a week - I expected it to return to normal - its very obviously not broken - it doesn't hurt to walk - but the swelling on the large tendon which runs from the big toe down to the bridge of the foot is still causing me grief - and this is 5 weeks later - anyone had a similar injury and can give an idea of how long it will take to return to normal!. I live in the mountains in spain and a trip to the doctors is quite a trek!. !Www@Answer-Health@Com

You've done everything right, so far!. What you have is tendonitis!. Think of it as the tendon (the Extensor Hallucis Longus) being "bruised" by the heavy object!. Muscle is red - meaning it has a good blood supply!. Tendons and ligaments are white!. Very poor blood suplly!. So they always take much londer to heal!. On the order of weeks to months!.

Here are some things that you can do!. Use an antiinflammtory medicine to reduce infalammation!. Wear good, supportive shoes like hiking boots or walking shoes with a rocker-bottom sole!. Apply heat (like a warm towel) for 20 minutes at a time!. Do calf muscle stretching exercises!. And sometimes a cast may have to be used!. But if you've put up with this for five weeks, you are either very tough, or it's not that serious to begin with!. Hang in there tough guy!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's probably broken and not healing correctly!. I sprained my ankle really bad last year and the swelling went away in around a week!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
