Question: Child shot!?
I gave a child an immunization today!. They child jerked and the needle bent a little!. I went ahead and administered the pneumonia vaccine!. When I pulled the needle out it had a little blood in it!. Some one told me it was because when he jerked some of the tissue got tore up in his leg!. is that true!? I made him wait 15 min after the shot before he could leave and he had no reaction and seemed normal!. Is he ok!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
you have to learn how to restrain children better to protect them AND you!. the injection itself caused tissue injury, you just made it worse by not preparing yourself for the child's movements!. anticipate better and pay attention to the patient -you have to be very assertive!. you'll get better in a few months!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

IM inoculations are typically not anything to worry about, even if you nick a small blood vessel!.

The tissue that was torn will heal quickly - children are pretty resilient!.

My question, though is why are you administering inoculations to school children!? Are you an LPN or RN!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm a little concerned that you were giving shots to children and are asking for advice on yahoo answers! Were you certified to be doing this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

oh my goodness, you shouldn't have given him a bent shot! but i'm sure he is fine, when he jerked it probly tore tissue like the other person said!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
