What's the best thing to do for a pulled neck/shoulder muscle?!

Question: What's the best thing to do for a pulled neck/shoulder muscle!?
I have pulled a muscle in the right side of my neck/shoulder and it hurts when I try to turn my head to the left and when I lift my right arm!. I have some glusomine gell and have rubbed that in only it hasn't eased the pain!. I take painkillers and ibuprofen anyway, any ideas as what I can do to ease the pain, thanks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Oh that's painful Bernie-maybe a wheatbag - usually heated in the micro then apply to your neck-otherwise some deep heat ointment or a massage-hope it soon gets better-nothing worse!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Put an ice pack on it!. Keep it there for 15 minutes!. Leave it off for 10 minutes!. Now put it on again for another 15 minutes!. Wait 15 minutes!. Now put a hot pack on it (a hot water bottle is fine)!. Leave it on until it's no longer hot!.

When your neck is good and hot, slowly put your chin on your chest to stretch the muscles at the back of your neck!. Then put your head on one side to stretch the muscles on the side - and repeat on the other side!.

Leave it an hour, then do it again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

nothing relieves a bit of muscular pain like a good long soak in a warm bath :)
but, i'd say take it easy in terms of physical activity, have a rest!. i am currently resting from an injury myself and it's no fun, but you don't rest and you'll only make it worse!.
keep taking the painkillers (but for gods sake don't exceed the recommended dose)
if possible, eat foods high in all the amino acids such as milk and eggs!. these can help aid muscle recovery!.
keep hydrated as well; a dehydrated body will find it twice as hard to repair itself!.
if it doesn't show signs of improving, or it gets worse, go see a doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have a similar problem!. I suggest you go to a drop-in centre or your local surgery and ask for something to help you!.

I've at last got an appointment with a spinal team at my local hospital who may refer me on to the Physio Dept!. Whatever they decide, as long as this pain in my back and neck goes away, I'll do whatever they say!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sorry to hear that Bernie

Ibuprofen should relax the muscle and ease the pain!. I suppose all you can do is rest your shoulder as much as possible

That means staying out of the garden for a day or two :(Www@Answer-Health@Com

You could try putting a hot water bottle on it, it might help relieve the painWww@Answer-Health@Com
