I hate veins.?!

Question: I hate veins!.!?
So, I have this thing about my veins!. I don't know why but I absolutely hate the idea of something touching or going into them!.
It is a problem because I can't even get blood drawn without getting dizzy, nauseous and hot!. I don't know why I freak out so much, but I really wish I could be calmer!.
I'm extra scared because next week I need to be given an anesthesia injection and I don't want to have that kind of reaction to the needle again because a) it's awful and unpleasant and b) I don't want to be stressing and fighting against the anesthesia!. (Not looking doesn't help!.)
How can I get over my veins thing!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I am a nurse and you are not alone in this!. My own daughter freaks out at the site of a needle!. If you tell your doctor before you get anesthesia, how you feel, they will give you a sleeping gas first!. This is usually done anyway, but with that kind of fear, you must tell them!. They have a way of calming you down!. You are the only one that can convince yourself to get over this fear!. I know it's not pleasant, believe me, I've had over 10 operations in my life time!. I still hate that needle but it doesn't freak me out!. I don't think any one likes a needle put in their veins!. I wish you well!. be blessedWww@Answer-Health@Com

Activation of the vagus nerve can lead to a drop in heart rate, blood pressure, or both!. This usually happens in the setting of gastrointestinal illness such as viral gastroenteritis or acute gall bladder disease, or in response to other stimuli, including carotid sinus massage, Valsalva maneuver (bearing down like you're straining to poop), or pain from any cause, particularly having blood drawn (probably what's affecting you)!. When the circulatory changes are great enough, vasovagal syncope (passing out) results!. Relative dehydration tends to crank up these responses!.

Excessive activation of the vagal nerve during emotional stress can also cause vasovagal syncope (passing out) because of a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate!. Vasovagal syncope affects young children and women more often!.

You might ask them if they can give you a sedative orally before your procedure to calm you down!. Talk to the surgeon about it before your surgery, because he can talk to the anesthesiologist about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Have you talked to your doctor about your phobia!? maybe they can give you something for your anxiety!. I know it is embarrassing, but admitting you need help will be the first step in getting on with it!.

I don't know the procedure, but sometimes they can give you a pill to help calm you before they have to stick you!. They don't always like to do that, but it doesn't hurt to ask!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i hate vein to!. when you going to get your blood drawn try to stay calam!.breath in and out!. or hold someone hands!. when they take my blood i try not to good in the direction where they take the blood!. good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

cool, i hate people!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ask them to give you a sleeping gas b4 they do it!.!.!. They don't usually like to do it, but you still can, and probably should ask!. Or get something to calm you, maybe your psychiatrist can give you something to calm your anxiety, something mild of course!. But still, if you get a pill, you've got to ask your doctor whether this will be a problem for the surgery!. I'm a pre-med student, and you're not a very cool patient, if YOU freak out, imagine what the poor interns will do! But hey! You're also a very, VERY cool patient in a way, because it'll be very good practise for them, they're gonna see patients w/ MUCH worse and MUCH pointless phobias, and a lot of kid patients who basically freak out from everything!. Plus, they're already dealing with their mean, old bats for an attending! So, I think I'd just love to have a patient like this! If your doctor thinks so, I think he's gonna do everything in his power to help you! At least, residents & interns will!. (of course they're mean residents too, but much less common) Attendings can be a bit moody tho, not all of them of course!.!.!. And you should get over that fear quick, coz when you're a mummy and your kids freak out b/c of the needle, & you'll have to get that needle stuck in you first, to give them couragei what you gonna do babe!?!?!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
