The answer above is crazy!. Yes, a Doctor can ask you to bing in your old RX to get another one!. It shos that the patient is nt abusing them!. Too many time patients say that a medication isn't working when it is but they just want something stronger!. I wok for Family medicine and wehave had to do this at least 6-8 times in my 7 years with these docors!. We have to flush the medication with 2 witnesses after counting!. if the patient refuses to bring it in then they don't get a new RX!. Pretty straight forward!.

Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes they can take the meds back if they are going to prescribe something stronger!. It's a cover their butt move so the patient does not become a drug addict and in turn sue the doctor!.
Hopefully the doctor didn't keep the drug for his own benefit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Doctors who are hooked on drugs or selling them illegally will do this!. The only way it is legal is if he asks your permission & then destroys them in front of you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think so, because you paid for it, or even if your insurance did, its your propertyWww@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think a doctor can legally force you to give up an already paid for prescription, but he can surely refuse to give you something stronger, as long as you are already holding on to another narcotic!.

I experienced this one time years ago with my son's Ritalin!. He had been taking generic ritalin tablets!. The dr!. wrote the prescription for the Brand name drug, and the pharmacist filled it with brand name Ritalin, as they were out of the generic type!. The branded drug gave him such a terrible headache, I phoned the doctor and asked him to write another prescription so that I could have it filled somewhere else!. I explained the situation to him, but he didn't seem to believe me when I told him that the brand name meds seemed to be affecting my son differently than the generics he was accustomed to!. The doctor told me I had to bring in the entire bottle of Ritalin to him at his office, in order for him to write my son another prescription!.

I can understand a doctor's reasoning behind this!. He's written you a narcotic prescription already for pain!. The next day, you need a stronger pain med and ask him to write another prescription!. You will NOT need both painkillers at the same time!. The doctor is covering his own derriere!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
