I am a licensed Pharmacist!. Yes, the other 2 are correct, the ibuprofen is the culprit!. You next steps are 4 things:

1!. stop taking ibuprofen and wait at least 6hrs before taking Aleve!. Switch to naproxen, (Aleve), 2x220mg every 8 hrs!. Aleve is at least 2 x as strong as ibuprofen and also kills pain at least 2 x longer!. Do not take more than 6 pills per 24hrs!. You can add 325mg acetaminophen, 2 tabs every 4 hrs, but will probably not do much for toothache!.

2!. Go to your local pharmacy and get a couple things: in the first-aid/toothache section, get 20% benzocaine numbing agent!. Your Pharmacist can point it out to you!. If you have a broken cap, Pharmacies often sell emergency repair caps that are temporary until you get to your Dentist!.

3!. also try chewable or liquid antacid, or better yet oral Prilosec, once daily for the next few weeks to heal up the suspected ulcer/ gastric erosion that is developing in your stomach because of the ibuprofen!. Avoid tobacco, alcohol, aspirin, spicy or greasy foods and try to avoid too much emotional stress during this time!. These will make the ulcer worse!.

4!. If you have a fever associated with the toothache, this could be a serious sign of illness so go to ER or Urgent Care asap!. If you havent dont already - make appointment with your Dentist!.

This would be a typical consult if you went to talk with your community Pharmacist!. I personally recommend Longs Drugs or the Medicine Shoppe stores if they are in your area!.

Get well soon!

My surgeon told me the safest dose that they have PROVEN safe for your stomach is 2 X 200 mg every 6 hours!. If you take 4x 200mg every 6 hours it is the prescription dose - and that is not proven safe for your stomach!. I actually got an ulcer form ibuprophen and someone I know had to have a kidney transplant because in college he took too much tylenol and Ibuprophen!.
Please don't take that much!. If your tooth ache is that bad, go see a dentist - he will give you a pain killer that won't be bad for your stomach!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yeah you have to be careful with how much you take!. i had the same problem one time and it messed up my stomach for awhile where i couldn't take ibuprofen for a long time without it hurting my tummy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ibuprofen is very hard on your stomach!. The max dose you should take is 2400mg in 24 hrs!. You're taking too much!. Make sure you drink at least 8 oz of water with it or take it with food!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
