Question: I hurt my ankle playing tennis today, please help!.!?
Today me and my friend were playing tennis!. I went for the ball after he served and my ankle rolled!. It poped twice and I went down right away!. The pain was horrible at first and I have severe swelling on my right side of my ankle (right foot)!. The left side seems to be ok!. Anywho, my family had cruches so I am on them!. Never been on cruches before!. Anyways they swear up and down I dont need to go to the doctor they said it would heal on its own, its just a spain!. Well I dont believe them!. Right now I am in my bed with my foot elevated!. I know it isnt broke cause I can move it and as long as I dont put weight on it it doesnt hurt that much!. I may wait till Monday to go to the clinic (cheaper then hosp) anywho should I be worried!? It is minor!? I worry alot so I wanted to go get checked but my parents didnt see it as importain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

its most likely a twisted ankle!. What you probably really want to know, though, is how best to treat your injury!. Most orthopedists recommend RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation)!. REST your ankle as much as possible!. dont worry as long as your ankle "rolled" the chances are theres no broken bones in your foot just let it rest and come monday you wont feel like going to the clinic too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Whatever you do, dont imobilise it completely!. It will harm you more in the long run because your ankle will seize up!.

I did this 5 weeks ago at basketball!. Wasnt broken so I thought it would be ok, but turns out I completely tore the ligament in the exact spot youre talking about (anterior talo-fibular)!.

Just keep icing and elevating it and take some anti inflamatory tablets!. Dont put any heat on it!. Try to keep the range of motion in your ankle too - try to trace the alphabet with your big toe!.!.!.!. anything to stop it stiffening up!.

Dont take your parents word for it!. YOU know your body!.

having your sprained ankle elevated above your heart level is good!. that should help keep the swelling down!. hot and cold compress (alternate) would be good for any similar injury!. the cold compress will keep the swelling down, while the warm compress will help the blood circulation going and this also slims down the incidence for blues and black in the injured area!. If you are really unsure if it is just a simple sprain or a fracture or whatever, then, it is always good to see your doctor!. Oral pain reliever would also help reduce the pain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
