1) it must be set correctly so as not to cause deformity
2) it must be immobilized so as to facilitate healing
3) time it takes human arm bones about 6-8 weeks of immobilization to heal properly once set!.

It depends- If it is just a slight hairline fracture then yes you can do without the cast, but if it is a complete break then it really needs to be tended to!. Some need to be reset to heal properly!. Nothing would be worse then a broken bone not set and then arthiritis sets in and the next thing you know you are in pain all the time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
i broke my humerus back in2007 and the orthopedic put in just a sling and said it would heal well it never did and now it has to have surgery! my primary doc says he should have put it in brace or cast or even surgery in the very begining!. so depending on the type of injury, i would really question your doctor to death about the treatment!Www@Answer-Health@Com
It must be set properly and held in place, in order to heal properly!.
If it heals without the proper care, you risk having it re-broken to correct it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
