Answers:
They can tie you down for 2 reasons!. 1) Danger to self or others, known as a behavioral restraint!. 2) Recent intubation!.!.!.if you are dependent on a ventilator and are in danger of pulling it out (extubation), known as a medical restraint!. Both restraints require a physician's order!.

With a behavioral restraint, if you have attempted suicide or have threatened harm to someone, a physician or nurse can initiate an emergent order of detention (EOD)!. An EOD can also be requested by a family member or a police officer and is usually good for 24-72 hours!. You are not allowed to leave during this time frame, and if you attempt to do so, the EOD is enforceable by law!.

A behavioral restraint must be renewed by a physician every 4 hours; a medical restraint must be renewed every 24 hours!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If someone is confused or disoriented such as elderly patients with dementia or patients who are under the influence of medications/drugs and sometimes alcohol!. They are allowed to do so only with a Dr's order however (in the US), if they are pulling out IV's, tubes and such, they can also be restrained to prevent injury to themselves sometimes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They can at times!. If you are acting radically and you become a danger to self or others, in which case they can pink slip you and you have to stay!. I have also heard of somebody being tied down after their had traceotomy (wow I can't spell that), because when the patient comes to they don't think they are breathing and it scares them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

they r only allow to restrain u wen u become a threat to the hospital staff!. they might strap you down to a bed and give u sum sedatives to calm down!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
