You don't say how old the bruise is, but ice is effective if a recent injury!.
If the bruise is older, the application of both heat (which increases circulation) and cold alternatively can be helpful, as can gentle massage, which helps break up older bruises!.
I don't know where you live, but your pharmacist may be able to supply a Heparin based cream over the counter which will also help break up the bruise and aid in reabsorbtion!.

Put ice on it immediatly after receiving it!. After that over a period of days (depending on size) rub it with alot of pressure in the center!. This will hurt alot, but eventually it will turn green, after a few weeks, it will go away!.

You can put a cold compress on it!. But generally speaking, it is best left and it will go away all by itself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
