Releasing hospital information?!

Question: Releasing hospital information!?
My brother was in the hospital 8 yrs ago and sustained some brain injury as a result, but never paid them!. He is a veteran and gets treatment at the VA clinics who were never aware or had no record of his previous accident until he told them a few days ago!.
They need him to sign a release from the hospital that treated him over to the VA hospital who is currently treating him!. If he goes in to get the release signed over to the other hospital, will they allow him to since he still owes them money!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes, if he requests his records, it is his right to get them!. He will have to sign a HIPA form, and it takes about a week!. You can either have them mailed to your house, or pick them up a week later at the hosptial!.

Again, they may try and give you a hard time, but it is your right, and they need to give them to you!.

I hope I was able to help, if you have any further information, or anymore questions, feel free to email me!.

I'm pretty sure they have to!. It is unethical (and probably illegal) to withhold medical records from a client, especially when they are to be used to his medical advantage presently!. They could give him a bill, but I doubt they can refuse to give him medical information about himself that he needs in order to receive treatment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

He needs to sign the release at the VA and have them fax it to the other hospital!.!.!.they will release the information to the VA!.!.!.!.lots less hassle than going in there trying to get them his self!.!.!.!.also, many places charge(for copies) to give information to patientsWww@Answer-Health@Com
