Please don't be afraid to ask questions about people doing things to you!. You have a right to know why she is doing a rectal temp on you, she could easily do an oral or in your armpit(axillary) temp!. There is a recent story of some guy roaming hospitals posing as a doctor when he is not!. Who knows what he was doing to people!. The nurse should have explained what she was doing and why and you could have questioned her!. Sorry you were uncomfortable but don't be afraid to ask questions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
It's "behind" the technology curve (forgive the pun, please)!. There may be an obscure medical reason for this mostly-outdated procedure, however, as a patient, you have certain rights to know!. Ask your parent (it'll be easier that way :) to ask for the "medical reason;" if none is given, parent should ask the follow-up question: why is Dr!.s' office unequipped with the more modern, inexpensive oral thermometers available off-the-shelf at Walmart's!? Thirdly, the parent should then hint that perhaps SOME patients would prefer the latter, thank you very much!.
