What do you do about an alergic reaction/swelling due to a bug bite?!
Question: What do you do about an alergic reaction/swelling due to a bug bite!?
My son, four years old was bit by something while he was at a green house with his father - who I am separated from - I did not hear about the bite until about six hours later!. It looked perfectly fine at first, just looked like a big mosquito bite - it was a little itchy!. Naturally I washed it with anti bacterial soap, and put calamine lotion on it!. His father did not wash it at all, or do anything about it!.
My son has had a history of minor swelling to bug bites, but nothing like this!.
Info :
Bit yesterday afternoon - swelling noticed this morning
His hand is swollen to about 2 times its normal size & red
Bite spot is red, white ring around it (like from pressure)
Can still use it with no pain
It's moderately itchy and sore
All vitals fine - alert, breathing well, ect!.
He feels warm, but no fever - temp= 98!.8
I gave him life brand benadryl at 4pm (advised by nurse)
He is pretty sleepy - likely due to the medication
He's holding a frozen veggie package on it!.

you are doing all the right things!.
i actually spent the day in the ER with my 14 year old yesterday due to an allergic reaction!. she too had been with her dad and he wasnt taking care of her, so she thankfully called me, and i ended up taking her to the ER!. she was given a steroid shot, and benadryl as well as zantac!. yep the stuff a person takes for acid reflux!. somehow that helps calm inflammation from an allergic reaction
anyway, i think you are doing all the right things, and if i were you, i would just let the little guy sleep with you tnoite, and if the sweeling hasnt subsided by morning, take him in to see his doc!.
hang in there!.!.!.he will be alright :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you first should try putting his hand in a bowl of cold water!. This will help the swelling and the pain go away if he has any- or itching!. apply some neosporn to the bug bite and keep his hadn in the water for as long as it needs!. then pat dry his hand and he needs to lay down with it flat beside him!. If this does not help and he get's worse, it might be best to take him to the ER!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
