Is it okay to drink water when you're fasting for blood work?!


Question: Is it okay to drink water when you're fasting for blood work!?
I had some blood tests done on Friday, and I fasted from midnight on, but just before the blood work was done I had a bit of water!. Is that okay!?!?!?
I also had an Upper GI test done just about an hour before the blood tests!. I had to swallow that barium stuff!.!.the white chalky liquid!.!.!.would that do anything to the blood tests or no!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is absolutely okay to drink water before the blood tests, you would just not want to drink caffeinated or sugared beverages as those can skewer the results to read falsely!.

As for the barium, it will have no effect on the blood tests either!. So don't worry, you did nothing wrong!. Hope all goes well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Call your physician's office that ordered the blood work and ask for the nurse and let the nurse know!. It may alter the outcome, but it may not!. The best thing to do is to let the physician know so that the physican can best read the results!. Each blood draw is different, depending on what they drew for!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
