I just received a medical bill for an ER visit I went to a year ago. Can they st!

Question: I just received a medical bill for an ER visit I went to a year ago!. Can they still legally bill me!?
I fell June 07 and ripped my toenail almost clean off my big toe!. It was still attached by a thread and I went to the ER so they could numb it and pull it off!. There was no wait and they had me in and out pretty quick!. They put a little liquid numbing medicine on it and waited 5 min!. then came back in and the doctor pulled it off!. The doctor saw me for a total of maybe 5 minutes and now almost a year later I got a bill for $280!.00 from the doctor!. I was aware of the sign in the ER that states that you could be billed separately for the doctor who saw you!. So I paid the hospital bill and never received anything else so I figured I wouldn't be billed!. I think it is ridiculous to get a bill a year later! I plan to dispute it because of the timing of the bill so what can I legally do!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You can dispute it if you wish, but it is your bill and you legally still owe the money!. What would be better than disputing it, (because if you do you will lose and it will go to collections and against your credit), is to ask them if they will settle for a smaller amount!. Start out by offering them half, or $140!.00!. If they agree, then get it in writing from them, then mail it to them with a return receipt at the post office!. Do not ever give them electronic access to you bank account!. They may say it's the only way they will settle, but what they will really do is take the entire $280!.00Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've been billed for medical visits from last year!. It happens!. Sometimes medical places get shorthanded or just fall behind on billing because of all the forms they have to submit to insurance companies, medicare, medical, etc!. I am afraid that you will still have to pay the bill though; even if it is annoying that they can't just send you one bill!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They have up to 7 years to send a bill!. Sorry legally you can't do much, you used their service, now do the right thing and pay them!. Healthcare is already expensive enough without people refusing to pay because the bill came later than expected!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes!. my aunt's friend got billed after owing for 11 years!. she made a couple of payments but never paid it off!. i thought there was a time limit but i guess it's like a student loan that you will owe it until they feel it is paid off!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, i think they can still legally bill you but 4 pulling off a toenail it shouldnt be that high (280!.00)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes!. They probably spent some time billing your insurance!. Now, they are going for your co-pay!. And the amount of time that the procedure took has no bearing on the fee!. I could spend 5 seconds, or 5 hours on a procedure!. And the insurance company would pay me the same!. It's all in the code associated with that procedure!. And if I have difficulty, or there are complications, and I have to spend more time with the patient, believe me - the insurance company doesn't care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
