Shin splints from soccer?!

Question: Shin splints from soccer!?
I was just wondering what it is that's wrong with my shins, as they are in pain, and from the research I've gathered 'shin splints' comes up a lot!. Well I do a lot of running, play soccer every Saturday and train every Tuesday!. When I sprint / wear shin guards, the pain is worse, and it's worse in my left shin which has a scar on it right where the pain is (though I don't recall knocking it)!. I am visiting the Doctor about this, though I'd still like some opinions on what's wrong!? Thanks in advance for your answers!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Definitely sounds like shin splints to me!. A shin splint--which sounds like something really horrible, as if the bone splintered--is actually a tear or rip in the tissue between the bone and the muscle/skin of the shin!. Shin guards can't prevent or protect this sort of thing!. Shin splints most often occur suddenly, usually when running; most often it occurs when someone who isn't accustomed to physical exercise suddenly takes up running; though an athletic person can also get it by suddenly throwing themselves into a tougher regime!.

I suffered a shin split last summer!. I'd taken up jogging and while it started out alright the first couple of weeks one morning I literally collapsed on the road!. It felt as if someone had taken a bat to my left shin!. I had to be helped home by kind strangers!.

The next morning I got out of bed and almost fell!. I could barely move my leg and had to come down the stairs on my butt!. At a certain point I had to physically move my leg with my hands when I wanted to move it while sitting down!. It wasn't swollen but I cannot recall having ever felt such intense pain!.

I eventually went to my doctor and he confirmed that it was a shin splint in my left leg!. I had to go to a physiotherapist for four months and was banned from wearing heals for six months!. Shin splints heal themselves (though VERY slowly, at times) but the physiotherapist helps strengthen your legs again through careful training and massage!.

So, sadly, there is no quick fix-it cure; you're just going to have to weather it out until it heals itself!. The #1 advice you'll be given is to keep off your feet as much as possible!. Soccer will definitely be a no-no for a couple of months, and you'll have to slowly get back into it!. Heat packs help lessen the pain a bit but they won't make it heal any faster!.

Battle on, fellow shin-sufferer! ^_^Www@Answer-Health@Com
