My pup was hit by a car!?!

Question: My pup was hit by a car!!?
My four year old pomeranian was just hit by a car!. My dad was home when it happened, but the driver drove off and so we don't know what exactly happened!.
Only his front left paw was hit; there is a 3 inch patch where the hair has been torn off and it's raw and slightly bloody!. When I touch his shoulder and upper leg, he doesn't react, but when I try to touch the paw he flinches!. When I came home he apparently ran down the steps to greet me!. He is walking around on all three legs and seems to be getting by fine!.
He's also obviously tired and fell asleep in my arms within two seconds (which he RARELY does) The closest 24 hour vet hospital is 2 hours away, so I'm going to have to wait for the vet tomorrow!.
What can I do in the mean time!? I didn't want to wash it because I wouldn't want to risk touching an area that's possibly broke!. I'm afraid he's in shock because of his lethargy!. Should I elevate his hindlegs just in case!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm sorry to hear about that!. As a pet owner I know how frightening it can be when something happens to your pets!.

I know you're not being cruel/inhumane but not taking him to the vet, however, even though you're a "poor college girl", it's your responsibility to your pet to get him proper care!. If you cannot afford that then you shouldn't have a pet in the first place!. That dog HAS TO GO TO A VET!.

If anything's broken and not fixed in time he'll walk with a permanent limp for the rest of his life!. More pressing, shock can be lethal to a dog as small as a pomeranian!. And if the wound goes untreated/unwashed he risks an infection, which could also kill him eventually!.

All of these things should be taken care of by a vet!. You can't ease his pain by putting him on fluffy blankets or whatnot!. As his owner you are obligated to provide him with professional care!. I don't care how much I have to pay: if any of my animals so much as sneeze one time too many I take them straight to the vet and even if the surgery costs hundreds of euros (I'm from the Netherlands) I will pay it because I took on all of my pets with the knowledge that I am solely responsible for their health and happiness!.

I really hope you get some help for your pup because this experience must have been a terrible shock for the both of you!. Ask your father for money and a two hour drive is no excuse to not take your dog to see a vet: his health should not be overruled by "inconvenience"!. Put the welfare of your pet first!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Awww, I"m so sorry this happened!! I think you might want to dip the paw in some water with some antiseptic in it; even some salt!. It's important to get it clean!. You could place the pup on an old towel and poor warm salt water over the paw!.

As far as shock, just keep him warm and make sure he can get at his water dish!.

I am no vet so please take that into consideration; it's just what I would probably do!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
