Mother experiencing extreme pain in hip/thighs/calve and particularly knee.?!

My mother had went to the doctor's yesterday and they told her that she had 'burcitis' in her hip and they gave her anti - inflammatories but they don't work!.

A day has passed since she has been prescribed the anti-inflammatories and she had not yet felt their effect!.

She suffers from severe pain in areas mention in question!.
While lying down she's feels a strain and muscles spassaming!. Pain is reduced when she lies down for long periods of time and puts no stress on her legs!.
If she stands up and walks and goes back to sit down, the pain returns in great amounts!.
She can't bend over to pick things up because she feels sever strains on her muscle!.
Anyways, can anyone give an alternative as to what this is!?
She is in SEVERE pain and was told to get physio therapy!?
