Neuropathy has a cause, treating the cause is usually the first part of managing your neurpathic condition!.

Pain Management can help with some neuropathic pain, but whole body neuopathic pain would fall outside the realm of most interventional techniques, such as blocks, and stimulators!.

Hopefully your neurologist has been able to diagnose a cause for the neuropathy!.

I will tell you that opiate analgesics are poor control for neuropathic pain!. The best it can do is dull the brain's perception, but it does so at a significant loss of quality of life!. Usually the bettter choices are neuromodulating agents, such as the Lyrica which you have tried!. Others include Neurontin, Gabatril, and Zonegran!. All of these are antiepileptic drugs like Lyrica, and each has side effects, as do all medications!. Sometimes it becomes a matter of weighing the benefits of the pain relief over the side effects!.

While I have worked with pain patients for many years, and have dealt with many forms of neuropathic pain, each patient has different needs, and the choices are based on the situation!.

A previous responder has given you good information about keeping a log, a good history of the pain pattern goes a long way towards helping to manage your pain!. I will also add, that when you get to the clinic they will normally ask you what level your pain is at on a scale of 1 to 10!. It is not helpful if every patient comes to the clinic every time and says they have level 10 pain all the time!. First, that would be impossible!. Second, your vital signs and physical symptoms will give an indication about your level of pain!. It is understood that you have severe pain, otherwise you would not be in a pain clinic, but be realistic about your pain levels!.

I personally have a neuropathic condition which was unable to be diagnosed locally!. I eventually went to the Mayo Clinic and got a diagnosis, and once the treatment for the condition was started, the pain control was easier!. I still have pain, and many times it exceeds the medications, but most of the time I can manage, and have a clear mind!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've been in a pain management program for several years due to a spine injury and nerve damage!. Here is a tip you may want to consider!.

Start a daily journal of your pain

How bad it hurts
Where you hurt
How badly it hurts
and most inportant, how it is effecting your daily life!. What you are not able to do because of the pain!.

At first it will feel like a pain in the butt to do but it works!. Nothing fancy,, I use a steno pad for each month and make a summary!. Good luck

Make yourself a little summary or take it with you to the doctor!. All information you can provide them help them understand your condition and treat you!. Plus most good doctor feel that patients that do this are being a part of the process!.

Like I said I have a spine injury and a lot of nerve damage that I take several different pain medications daily!. Whe you get into the pain management phase it really is just a matter of what works for you and what doesn't!. I took about 2 years to get mine at a level and combination that I have only had one change in 3 years!.

My heart goes out to you,,,nerve pain is the worse,,,and when it never let's up wow!.
