Pain Clinic Help?!

Question: Pain Clinic Help!?
Greetings, Lots of questions about pain clinics!. I was just told that after 12 yrs I will finally be seeing a specialist in the Veterans Admin system!. A bit of history first!.
43 yr old male former active duty Marine
within the last 14 yrs I have had:
C spine fused x3 2 anterior 1 posterior c3-c6
Lumbar Spine fused x4 operations 1 discectomy, 1 fusion graft, 1 fusion + rod emplacement, 1 rod broke and repaired!. Left knee ACL/MCL replacement!. Multiple broken ribs, right femur, right ankle, cardiac arrest!.
I have been seen by the VA for 12 yrs after medical retirement 80% perm/total!. They have had me on various pain meds but primarily MS Contin 3 30mg a day by mouth and percocet 6 -24 hours!. A few yrs ago they had me on much more of oxycodone without the tylenol but I couldn't function at work so asked for reduction and that was granted!. I have never asked for my prescription early and I am disciplined in taking it!.
I have tried ever since to get to a pain clinic for full support!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hey MonsterB first of all thank you for your service!. If you are dealing with the VA you've a hero to me!.

Are you trying to figure out what is the best thing to do before you see a pain specialist!? If that's what you are asking here is what I have done for years for a spine injury

Start a daily journal of your condition!. Nothing fancy, I use a steno pad each month

Record:
when you hurt
where you hurt
how badly you hurt
and most important, how the pain or your condition is effecting your life

Make yourself a summary or just take it with you!. It is a tip that a pain doctor gave me 7 years ago and I am still in the pain management program!. It's hard to remember all the things the doctor needs to know in just a few minutes and when you are nervoous being there anyway!. It really helps!. At first it may seem like a pain in the butt, but it works!. It lets the doctor know you want to be part of the process!.

If you were asking about pain management issues send me an e-mail and I'll give you all I know about!.

Here one of the type of pain sites I can give you!.

Good luck and thanks again for serving!. I hope the VA provides you with the best medical care!.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things,, living with pain is not an easy task by itself!. I was an engineer and it disabled meWww@Answer-Health@Com

I don't have anything as severe as you but I have been seeing a spinal specialist and I had one procedure that reduced my pain by 50%!. The doctor burned the nerve endings with radio ways so that the nerves could not send messages to the musles!. I'm still taking meds but about 1/2 of what I was taking!.

Bottom line, in addition to the pain clinic, find a specialist in treating the spine and nerves!. I see alot of people at my doctors office that have already had surgery but still suffer and he seems to be reducing the pain as much as he can!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
