How accurate are CT Scans?Negative results but still in pain with limited motion!
Question: How accurate are CT Scans!?Negative results but still in pain with limited motion!.!?
I injured my shoulder on April 2, 08!. I fell through a roof!. Two days ago I had a CT with Contrast and the Orthopedist said everything looked fine and wanted to try physical therapy!. My question is if I am still in pain and have limited movement of the shoulder wouldn't something show up on the scan!? How accurate are they!? I can't have a MRI because of an implanted device!. If the pt doesn't work what is the next step!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
It is certainly a sensitive test, but not as much as an MRI!. The interesting thing about diagnostic testing and musculoskeletal pain is that pathology is not always correlated to pain!. Movement is often what is needed to promote healing, even if we do not know specificially what tissue is injured!. Physical therapy may be of benefit!. Arthroscopic examination would be a last resort!.

No, it cannot detect abnormal muscle tension or microscopic tears, your brain can!.
Limited would be a better term than inaccurate!.
