While MRI are black and white, the picture they paint is not!. I often see radiologist and orthopedic surgeons draw different conclusions from the same MRI or things just not showing up on MRI at all!.

What you really need to pay attention to is the STABILITY of the knee, function, pain and swelling!.

Yes, you can sometimes do all the things you mentioned with an ACL tear because those activities are controlled and don't always stress the ACL, then your knee may give out when you least expect it such as with cutting to the side or turning while running!.

Go with the advice of a reputable orthopedic surgeon that deals with sports injuries!. May want to try physical therapy, then have your therapist do a Functional Test to see if your leg is in good enough shape to go back to sports (of course only if your surgeon agrees given your injury)!.

Don't get hung up on tear or bad stretch, is the knee stable !? that is the question you should be pursuing!.

Get a good orthopedic surgeon and they will take good care you!. They see stuff like this all the time!.

Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'd like to urge you to go see an orthopaedic surgeon again and get another MRI if you are not sure!. About two years ago, I completely tore my ACL but was misdiagnosed!. I took soccer off for six months to let it "heal" and after playing again for about a week, my knee popped out again and it was determined that it had in fact been completely torn the first time!. I had a torn ACL and I was able to walk and run and do other stuff on it becuase the rest of my muscles and ligaments around my knee were so strong!.
If you need surgery, take it!. The first time it took me six months to "heal"!. The second time was almost half that time before I was back playing soccer (without contact or tackles, mind you)!. It's worth it!.
Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
